Many thanks to Holly Pinto, Christine Stouffer, Jeff Berns, Mary
Rogalski, Abigail Ross and Beth Morey for their comments, mostly about
OneLog. Judging from the comments and the requests I received for a
summary from those who have not yet purchased cost recovery software,
there is a lot of interest and not much implementation, apparently due
to high pricing. I will take a look at OneLog also, but I fear I will
have the same reaction I have had when reviewing other products - the
price and cost of implementation would not be justified by the rate of
cost recovery or information gained about online product usage in any
reasonable stretch of time. My immediate hope when reviewing these
products was to lighten my load and increase my rate of recovery for
PACER charges, but since PACER has implemented client code validation,
that should get a little better. For those products not billed back for
which I was hoping to see the amount of use, I shall have to hope the
vendors can assist in providing that data of my firm usage, if not,
we're back to relying on anecdotal evidence when planning renewals.
PACER is planning to attend and present at AALL, be sure to let them
know we all benefit from the improvements they have made on billing and
reporting, especially the ability to log into the master account to
review all account charges, and the above-mentioned client code
validation. Now if they would just produce monthly bills instead of
quarterly...
I believe that the Lexis new version of Client-Validator (CRM-Cost
Recovery Manager) works with all vendors.
Have you looked at Onelog yet? http://www.itsltduk.co.uk/onelog_law.htm
<http://www.itsltduk.co.uk/onelog_law.htm> - We just purchased and are
testing in the library.
We recently reviewed OneLog <http://www.itsltduk.co.uk/onelog.asp> , but
balked at the price.
FYI: There's a dated, but interesting comment by Cindy Chick at

ives/000503.html+onelog&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=us
We just had a presentation from OneLog
(http://www.itsltduk.co.uk/onelog_law.htm), which may fit the bill. We
are still in a very preliminary stage of evaluation, so I cannot yet
offer a recommendation.
We don't currently use such software, but I sat in on a demo from OneLog
and was quite impressed. They are independent - and even mentioned that
one of the biggies tried to buy them last year, but they resisted.
You might add OneLog to your list of vendors to talk to....

<<<<<Does anyone have advice about online usage statistics software
packages - we know about APS (formerly Advanced Productivity Software),
Lookup Precision or Elite (Thomson licensed version of Lookup Precision)
nQueue "Webtrack" (was a Research Agent product, bought by nQueue)
We're looking for software that works with multiple vendors. I figure
with conference season coming up soon it's time to get a revised list of
vendors to contact and maybe visit with at SLA and AALL, and was hoping
you all might have some advice on packages to consider or avoid.
Information about success or failure of the above-named packages would
also be appreciated.
I'd be happy to summarize the collective knowledge for the list.
Thanks,
