Title: Cataloging and Government Documents Librarian
Position: Academic Professional with university faculty rank and status
Qualifications: Master's degree in library or information science from
an ALA-accredited program; demonstrated knowledge and experience in
original cataloging and authority control; knowledge of AACR2, LC
classification, LCSH, MARC formats, and online catalog management
procedures/techniques; and working knowledge of PC workstation
applications, OCLC cataloging utilities, and local integrated online
library systems (Innovative Interfaces products preferred). Experience
with government documents preferred.
Responsibilities: Provide users with access to materials by creating and
maintaining bibliographic records. Manage the routine and work flow of
cataloging and the physical processing of materials. Perform original
and complex copy cataloging in all formats, including print serials and
monographs, electronic resources, microforms and AV materials. This
includes creating and editing bibliographic records in OCLC's Connexion
database, then importing bibliographic and authority records into the
library's catalog. Adhere to cataloging standards including AACR2, LCRI,
LCSH, and MARC formats.
Maintain quality control of the Law Library's bibliographic records,
authority records and holdings records in the catalog. Develop,
document, recommend and implement policies and procedures for creating
and maintaining all bibliographic, authority and holdings records.
Identify and resolve database problems occurring within the catalog.
Manage the receipt, processing and utilization of government information
(the Law Library participates in the Federal Depository Library
Program).
Develop and maintain skills related to the position by participating in
professional organizations, attending workshops and monitoring
developments in the field.
The Cataloging and Government Documents Librarian reports to the
Director of the Law Library.
Salary: Salary will be based upon the successful candidate's
qualifications and experience.
