Here are the responses so far. If I receive anymore I will send them on.
Sandee, we also subscribe to a service called Merlin Data...They are very reasonable. I use Choicepoint. Their prices have remained reasonable too over the years....I find I'm using Accurint a lot less...
We had never billed Accurint because at $.25 a search, it wasn't worth it. Then bills started going way up, and I discovered that I could do a print out by user, and discovered one person whose use was suddenly over the top. Turns out, somehow, her number had been stolen and was being used all over the country. Our bill still isn't the piddly $75.00 or so a month that it used to be, but it's much more manageable now.
By the way, I'm not certain that Choicepoint is any better or any cheaper, but at lease I can bill that, so I've been encouraging the use of it.
Accurint was the best price around that I know of. The remaining services I am acquainted with all run about the same cost. I knew when LexisNexis acquired Accurint we would be subject to a huge price jump. If you find something costing about the same as the old Accurint pricing please let others know. I use Accurint, ChoicePoint, LocatePlus and Westlaw for public records research. Each has its own pros and cons.
It is my understanding that Accurint will be phased out as a separate subscription later this year or early next year and will only be available through Lexis (at a much higher cost), so I too am looking for an alternative service.
choicepoint discontinued its own, extremely reasonable service and went solely to Autotrack. To do the same type of search on Autotrack now costs about 7 times as much - one search in CP which used to cost $10.00 now costs $75.00 if you want the same results. sigh! In the few years since this change at CP, the costs have not risen. I gather Accurint, which we have just gotten access to, is along the same lines. You might try Intelius or KnowX, though there is not where near the detail.
I have subscribed to ChoicePoint for a little over a year. During this time the prices have consistently remained low. I have not always been impressed the product- results of searches. I would love to hear some of the responses you get.
We have access to both Accurint and Autotrack (Choicepoint). While Accurint's pricing is increasing, Choicepoint's is coming down - and there is very little difference between the two currently (Accurint is still a bit cheaper). I also notice very little difference in the content on the services. I'd be interested to know of any other options out there.
I posted this same question a few weeks ago...We've decided to go with Choicepoint (which I have been using as a back-up to Accurint for years) on a one-year contract where we pay $200 monthly for $400 in searches (not including premium searches). This is more economical for us. Westlaw also has a public records add-on, however, this cost is prohibitive right now. Choicepoint searches are still less than Accurint and the information is collected from the same sources..
