Question regarding Federal practice

I know a lot of folks have Monday off but I thought maybe someone might be available for answers.

When a case is filed using the CM/ECF system in the Federal Courts, are papers needed at all or is the electronic record the only version of the information? It has been my experience that paper is still required and that images are a picture that cannot be modified to avoid hackers and so on. But I am interested in knowing the latest practices in this regard.

Do law firm practices differ in house from the practices they use with the courts?

I guess I have the same question at the state and local level. It seems that some courts have added imaging functionality to case management systems and I am interested in knowing if paper is destroyed once the image is on the system.

  Any information would be appreciated.

  Thanks
