A large Washington, DC law firm is recruiting for an Electronic
Resources Assistant.
Job Description:
This full time firmwide position reports to the Electronic Resources
Librarian. The position is responsible for assisting in supporting
firmwide the Library's electronic resources, the promotion and delivery
of current awareness materials, the Library's Intranet page content, and
training for electronic resources. DC responsibilities include providing
support for training, both in-house and vendor-led, along with other
duties to be assigned as necessary.
Intranet, current awareness & electronic resources responsibilities
include: Direct responsibility for coordinating user requests delivered
via My Daily News and working with users, Practice or Departmental
Groups for customized delivery of content via My Daily News and W&S LLP
Daily Update. Assisting in maintaining passwords for multi-office
electronic resources. Assisting in the development of and maintenance of
the Library's Intranet page content. Assisting in promoting firmwide
awareness of electronic research products. Assisting in the maintenance
of firmwide electronic resource practices and procedures. Assisting in
assuring stability of the Library's electronic resources. Participating
in the evaluation of new platforms/technologies for providing access to
electronic resources and delivering current awareness resources.
Participating & assisting in coordinating and conducting training for
selected firmwide applications. Assisting in producing in-house training
materials (print, electronic, etc). Assisting in assuring that vendor
and in-house created training materials are hosted as appropriate on the
Firm's Intranet. Participating in exploring new e-learning technologies
and processes to facilitate "on demand" e-learning.
DC office specific responsibilities include: Assisting in training new
hires on Intranet features and research applications. Assisting in
maintaining DC Library training materials and passwords. Assisting in
coordinating outside vendor training for on-line electronic databases
(Lexis, Westlaw, Courtlink, Court Express, GSILivedgar, etc). Providing
backup for basic research and reference as needed.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have a combination of library and strong
computer skills. Must be able to demonstrate experience with Windows and
Microsoft Office applications, Lexis, Westlaw and the Internet.
Knowledge of CD-ROM platforms and CD-ROM networking issues; working
knowledge of CD-ROM search engines such as Premise. Experience in
cataloging or classifying legal resource materials preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of web page design and development with a working
knowledge of html, FrontPage or other webpage design tool software such
as Lotus Notes would be a plus. Demonstrated experience in training on
legal and non-legal research applications. Familiarity with Library
OPACs is a plus.
MLS and 2 or more years of experience in a law firm library; appropriate
legal, technology and training experience may be substituted for the
MLS.
