First of all, pick public and academic library websites you really think
are excellent examples of website design, contact those libraries to
verify that librarians were either responsible or heavily involved in the
design process and show these to your colleague.

Not only is there a literature about librarians involved in web site
design, but it extends back in time and some is pedagogically aimed
at librarians teaching high quality design techniques.
