You can participate in committees without coming to the annual meeting,
but obviously, face time is crucial, especially if you want to be a
leader. The annual meeting is the one time that most of the movers and
shakers gather together.
Some PLLs have expressed the opinion that leadership in AALL is an
exclusive club where it's all about who you know. While it is human
nature to gravitate to people with whom you've already dealt with, I can
say that initiative, desire and fresh ideas are what really counts in
becoming a leader in AALL. Our current leaders are hungry to work with
new faces.
