Associate Dean, Library & Information Services
Pepperdine is a Christian university committed to the highest standards

Pepperdine University School of Law is an ABA accredited, AALS member
law school located in Malibu, California. The Associate Dean, Library &
Information Services will be able and willing to advance both the

Position Overview
The Associate Dean, Library & Information Services provides the vision
and leadership needed to support and advance the goals and objectives of
the law library in harmony with Pepperdine's mission and strategic
plans. Reporting to the Dean of the Law School, the Associate Dean,
Library & Information Services oversees the Law Library and the
Information Services Department. The Law Library holds a collection of
over 375,000 volumes, including rich holdings of print and electronic
resources that directly support research and teaching in a variety of
fields. Areas of collection focus include alternative dispute
resolution, legal ethics, law and religion, and international human
rights. This is a tenured/tenure-track faculty position.
Responsibilities
The Associate Dean, Library & Information Services is responsible for
the leadership, strategic planning, and management of the law library,
which includes computer and informational services. The Associate Dean,
Library & Information Services collaborates with faculty, students,
staff and administration to develop the collections, services, and
facilities of the law library and to support teaching and scholarship
needs. The Associate Dean, Library & Information Services facilitates
interdisciplinary access and collaboration between the law library and
all other Pepperdine University services. The Associate Dean, Library &
Information Services also serves as a proactive spokesperson for the Law
Library, within the context of the university-wide strategy for
advancement. Administrative duties include strategic planning, policy
development, continuous improvement of services and operational
processes, the effective application of new technology, staff
development, budget management and fund-raising initiatives. The law
library is staffed by seven librarians and eleven support staff and has
an operating budget of more than two million dollars.
Requirements
Applicants must have a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and an
ALA-accredited M.L.S. or M.L.I.S, and experience in academic library
leadership, including administrative and managerial responsibility.
Qualifications
The following qualities, abilities, and experiences are strongly
preferred:
* Skills to anticipate, plan for, and utilize emerging
technologies to enhance user services in a collaborative, busy, and
changing university setting.
* A demonstrated commitment to scholarship and publication
commensurate with a tenure-track position.
* Ability to teach legal research and information literacy.
* The ability to work effectively, productively, and
collegially with library personnel, students, faculty, administration,
and external representatives.
 
* An appreciation for accountability in legal education,
including the establishment of measurable goals and objectives to assure
ongoing library quality.
* A commitment to the optimal professional development of
academic librarians and staff members.
* Ability to collaborate on projects related to library facility
renovation and improvements and to work effectively with architects,
project managers, and construction managers.
* A history of active participation in library professional
organizations, with strong collaborative relationships in the library
community.
* Interest in developing law-related community programs.
* A demonstrated commitment to diversity.
