Career advice - academic law librarianship

Greetings,

I am hoping a few academic folks here may have some input on the
questions that follow. I did search for older LAW-LIB posts but found
nothing relevant from the past couple of years. I've been out of town
for a few weeks so I apologize if I've missed a recent discussion.

These questions were put to me by somebody who is about to start law
school in the fall and is interested in pursuing a career in law
librarianship:

- I'm interested mostly in academic law librarianship also, possibly
teaching legal research and writing. Any MLIS programs in particular
that are better respected than others among academic law librarians?
- In kind, is it better to study at a tech-oriented MLIS program, given
that the profession is moving in that direction?
- Do most law librarians teach?
- What kind of prospects are a available to a grad from good (but not
superb) LS and MLIS programs?
- What kind of position would a grad right out of LS / Grad School seek?

- And what kind of pay range would that grad be looking at?
- What kind of pay would a seasoned librarian be looking at?

I have salary information from a 2004 survey but would be interested in
any feedback you may have about your library. I've already forwarded
these questions to a couple of local contacts, but again I would be
interested in the opinions of academic law librarians on this list if
you have the time and inclination to share.

Please feel free to respond off-list. I will summarize if there is
interest.

Regards,

Ellen
