Recommendations: VC Locator products

Good morning -

I have been asked to identify venture capitalists or angel investors who
meet certain criteria: offer funding in a certain dollar range, and focus
on companies that operate in a specific industry. I am wondering what
suggestions or recommendations you may have.

I've been poking around on the Internet. The vfinance website has a search
engine that will let you download contacts at a specific dollar cost per
contact. There is also a product out there called VCgate that will let you
search for a fee that includes 1 year of free updates. (I believe this is a
downloadable software product.) For a similar fee, VCLocator will let you
search for and create reports based on your criteria. (This appears to be
web-based.)

Then there is the Pratt's Guide to Private Equity Sources published by
Thomson Financial (print only, I believe), and the DIRVCF (Directory of
Venture Capital Funding?) database on Lexis. However, the print volume
would be pretty labor intensive to go through and match my criteria, and the
Lexis database does not appear to allow one to search by funding amount or
have a very clear segment for industry.

Your suggestions are very much appreciated. Especially if you have had any
experience with the products identified above.

Thanks,

Wendy
