This question has me stumped and I am hoping someone out there can provide
assistance. A professor here has asked me to find plain language laws in
American jurisdictions that apply to civil litigation or to administrative
adjudication.
He is interested in case law, legislation, administrative regulations, and
executive orders requiring the courts and/or the executive branch to use
plain language in communications or explanations about government processes.
I need information for all 50 states and the federal government. The
professor directed me to the state of Washington Executive
<http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov/GovernorLocke/eo/eo_97-02.htm> Order
97-02 "Regulatory Improvement" that covers state administrative rules for
Washington.
I have found the website http://www.plainlanguage.gov/
<http://www.plainlanguage.gov/> , which covers plain language in federal
government materials. If you have done similar research covering a number
of states, or could help with one state, I would love to hear from you. I
would welcome any suggestions about the best way to approach this problem
procedurally. Thanks in advance.
