Business Library Cards

Last year, the SF Public Library stopped issuing Business Library cards. A small committee of NOCALL and SLA members met to deal with this issue. In the end, after several written and face-to-face communications with the SFPL, we persuaded the public library to reverse its policy! They are once again issuing library cards to firms, special libraries and government offices in the City.
We'd really like to thank all the librarians around the country who took the time to respond to our listserv postings and e-mails and to fill out our surveys. For example, the Chief of Main said she would be contacting other public libraries - from a list we were able to give her thanks to your responses - to see what their policies are regarding business library cards. The issue wasn't really that the PL didn't want to have the category of firm cards, but how to develop a policy that would be good both for them and for us, which has now been achieved.
We'll be writing more about this as we publicize the availability of the cards, but I just wanted to thank so many of you for your help.
