Library Assistant - Technical Services - Washington, DC

 

Our client, one of the nation's oldest and largest law firms, is seeking
a library assistant for technical service for their Washington, DC
location. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects
of serials processing and circulation of print and electronic library
materials. Also responsible for processing of new items for cataloging
and coordinates the final processing of cataloged items with the Library
Administrative Secretary, Chicago staff and the cataloguer. Responsible
for coordinating the loose-leaf filing. Provides general reference
assistance to patrons and guidance as to location of materials.
Responsible for collection maintenance and shared responsibility for
maintenance of Library equipment. Provides back-up for the Research
Assistant's Interlibrary Loan responsibilities. Responsible for timely
receipt and processing of all library materials utilizing the Library's
OPAC, Unicorn as well as the Firm's E-mail client for electronic
serials. Responsible for automating serial Control I.D.'s in Unicorn and
maintaining the Firm's bibliographic records and holdings in an
automated environment. Responsible for circulation and assisting patrons
in locating items within the collection. Responsible for maintaining
accurate routing lists in Unicorn. Responsible for distributing Lexis
and Westlaw prints throughout the day. Responsible for locating and
retrieving missing materials. Responsible for monthly submittal of new
acquisitions for cataloging. Responsible for receipt of cataloging
report and processing of same; coordinating the final processing with
the Library Acquisitions/Database Specialist. Provides general reference
to patrons. Assists in selected research/reference projects. Responsible
for shelving of library materials and maintaining the collection
according to the Library of Congress classifications. Responsible for
assuring the library study areas are neat and well stocked. Responsible
for instructing users how to use the Microfiche equipment.

 

Qualifications: High school diploma required. Previous law firm library
experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of specific library routines,
procedures and equipment. Ability to solve problems by following
clearly defined procedures. Oral and written communication skills
required to ask questions and prepare answers. PC skills in word
processing and e-mail software. Basic skills in Excel.
