"College" v. "School"

Hello, my fellow law-libbers, and Happy Friday!! An interesting subject
has come up within the library system where I work. That is, what is
the difference between a "college" and a "school" within a university?
I've noticed that at some universities, their law schools are called
"College of Law" and at others "School of Law". And this same thing
exists for business schools, education schools and every other division.
Thanks for any light you can shed on this, and hope you all have a great
weekend. Jim Sherman, Librarian, National University, Fresno Campus
