Thanks to Carrie Chownwai of Morgan Lewis in NYC, who went above and beyond, I not only have her copy of the issue (on loan), but photo copies and a cd of the cover in question as well.
As the administrator who requested this (under subject line: Mission Impossible), "Boy, you really have quite a network out there of helpful librarians." Although I'd add that "helpful librarians" is redundant.

Subject: American Lawyer cover from 1981
I've been asked to find a clean copy of the cover of the April, 1981, issue
of The American Lawyer magazine, suitable for framing.
Although I've found libraries that have runs that far back, they seem to be
on microfiche or microfilm and I don't know how well that will reproduce, so
I'm hoping a print copy will reproduce better. I did find ONE library with
a print copy, but when scanned, stains on the cover were visible. (I didn't
notice them, but I was more interested in the text.)
If anyone has or knows of a source, please let me know. We will be more
than happy to pay all costs for the copying of the cover.
