RE: Mississippi libraries ban 'Daily Show' book

Colleagues:

Not all public library systems in Mississippi had problems
with "America (the book)". The regional library system in
our part of the state owns seven copies, one for each of its
branches. At the moment, five of the seven copies are
checked out. On the other hand, I suspect that some public
libraries in other states have also self-censored this
title.

Doing acquisitions for a public library must be a very
challenging job. After all, there is always some person or
group that will be offended no matter what you select or
fail to select. Nonetheless, I think most librarians would
agree that failing to purchase a best-selling book like this
one because of a single image is pretty sad.
