Job Opening for Head of Reader Services - Reposting - Description Revised

               Northeastern University School of Law Library

Responsibilities: The Head of Reader Services is responsible for the
operations of the Reference and Reserve/Circulation/Inter-library Loan
divisions of the Reader Services department as well as assisting in the
smooth day to day running of the law library.

Duties: The Head of Reader Services is expected to take an active
leadership role in the administration team of the law library. She/he also
will work with the reference staff to provide legal research instruction to
support the first year legal research and writing programs and the general
curriculum. She/he will, as a member of the Advanced Legal Research (three
credit upper level law school course) teaching team, design curriculum and
instruct upper level students. In addition, the Head of Reader Services
will conduct complex research for law school faculty and provide high level
reference service to all law library users. The Head of Reader Services
will actively supervise all staff as well as serve as an instructor and
mentor for staff development; develop written procedures and guidelines for
departmental operations; be instrumental in determining appropriate
collection management and space planning. The Head of Reader Services will
also serves on library collection development committee and other library
and University committees as appropriate.

Requirements: Law degree from an ABA accredited law school (J.D. or LL.B.)
and an MLS or MLIS from an approved graduate level library program.
Demonstrated knowledge of legal research tools and methodology. Three or
more years of law library experience. Must have good interpersonal skills,
and be able to work with a diverse population. Must be service-oriented,
with strong public relations skills. Excellent supervisory, organizational,
and teaching skills are desired. Since our staff is small, may need to fill
in for other staff on short notice. Some evening and weekend work may be
required.

Salary: Salary is competitive, consistent with responsibilities and
commensurate with experience.
