POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The George Washington University
Jacob Burns Law Library

Head of Acquisitions

The Jacob Burns Law Library seeks a librarian to lead its Acquisitions Department. Responsibilities include supervising two full-time support staff; overseeing the ordering, receiving, and claiming of library materials and the payment of invoices; monitoring the materials acquisitions budget; working with the university’s accounting system to pay invoices electronically; reconciling the university’s accounting with the library’s automated system accounting; ensuring the integrity of the automated library ordering and receiving subsystem; working in cooperation with collection development to facilitate acquisitions work flow; and developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS: MLS (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited institution or substantial work toward completion of the degree; minimum of three years of supervisory experience in technical services, preferably in an academic setting; knowledge of the U.S. and foreign publishing industry. PREFERRED: Experience handling legal materials; experience with automated library systems, preferably Innovative; excellent oral and written expression; superior service orientation and team spirit; self-starter; reading knowledge of one language other than English.
