For whatever reason, Lynn Merring's message hasn't reached me, so I'm piggy-backing on Leslie
Leach's response:
Yeah, Heinz Kerry's remark is so _different_ from the classy way the Bush campaign & followers have
been talking about the Heinzes and the Kerrys. Such as, for instance, calling John Kerry a gigolo,
and claiming that Teresa Heinz Kerry gave Heinz Foundation money to terrorist organizations.

It would be interesting to see what the public and school librarian list
servs are saying about this comment.

I'm perfectly willing to grant that BOTH women had real jobs - both
salaried
and not. But I think Heinz Kerry's got a hell of a lot of nerve to make
that
kind of crack about Laura Bush.

Heinz is one to talk about never having a real job...did not realize
spending the family fortune and marrying powerful politicians was a
job...I
guess she calls it philanthropy.

Well, sure, I have the luxury of reading interviews like this at lunch
time.
And even after seven years in the profession it still doesn't feel
like
"going to work" every day. But I still thought I had a real job :^)

Teresa Heinz Kerry, 66, a philanthropist, sat in the double parlor of
her
Washington town house to talk about her views of the role in the White
House
she might assume. . . .
Q: You'd be different from Laura Bush?
A: Well, you know, I don't know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm,
and
she has a sparkle in her eye, which is good. But I don't know that
she's
ever had a real job - I mean, since she's been grown up. So her
experience
and her validation comes from important things, but different things.
And
I'm older, and my validation of what I do and what I believe and my
experience is a little bit bigger - because I'm older, and I've had
different experiences. And it's not a criticism of her. It's just, you
know,
what life is about.
