I think West could legitimately be asked what the criteria are for a
school to have a rep who serves only that school.
IF all the other schools in the DC area have similiar sized student
bodies, it may explain why they all have their own reps.
While we are a small law school, we have had the same rep for many
years; during that time she has served anywhere
from 7-14 schools at a time. Now they'll probably add UDC to her list!

Subject: What are the people at WestLaw thinking?

Dear Colleagues,

If you don't want to read a rant against WestLaw, turn away now.

The local Washington, DC area has seven (7) law schools. Each of those
law schools has their own West Representative for WestLaw, except UDC.
Our local WestLaw Representative is in Minnesota. Does that make sense?
I think not.

If we dig deeper, it is an even stranger phenomenon. We have the
smallest student body of the seven DC area law schools. We are located
3 blocks from Howard University's Law Library - they have a local Rep.
In order to get to the Howard University Law Library their local WestLaw
Rep. Usually take DC's Subway to the UDC/Van Ness Metro stop - right in
front of our Law Library - and walk the three blocks to Howard.
Howard's local WestLaw Rep. Has to walk in front of my Law Library to
service Howard, but can not assist my students because my "local" Rep.
Is in FREAKING Minnesota - not too local.

UDC would like to be treated EXACTLY like every other Law School in DC.
Having a "local" Rep. Stationed in MINNESOTA is ludicrous.

Why would this corporation treat an Historically Black College or
University in Washington, DC differently than they would the other six
Law Schools in the Washington, DC area.

They started this policy last year. I complained, yelled, screamed and
finally acquiesced when an excellent local Rep. Here in DC, John Lim,
was made as a go between. This Fall we have had no one from WestLaw
visit our campus until today - they appeared after I screamed at my
"local" MINNESOTAN rep. Yesterday.

It is unacceptable. I will have no choice but to suspend ALL WestLaw
activity at my Law School immediately, unless I get a real local Rep.

Are you listening West? In my heart of hearts, I believe this is a
racist action on the part of West, and I won't stand for it.

Sincerely,

Brian

As nightfall does not come all at once, neither does oppression. In both
instances, there is a twilight when everything remains seemingly

change in the air however slight, lest we become unwitting victims of
the darkness.
