Colleagues,

Microsoft® has developed a security-oriented update, Service Pack 2 (SP2), to the XP operating system that is designed to enable users to better defend against viruses, worms and hackers. While it takes care of these issues, it also has affected current functionality within existing Web applications, including some West products. In westlaw.com, SP2 may suppress pop-up windows, which are used to display the user's Print options.

If you have installed the XP update, you may find your print functionality affected. To enable full Print functionality, users need to add westlaw.com as a trusted site. This allows West to support enhanced print functionality, thus eliminating steps in the process of printing a document. A link to step-by-step instructions appears on the westlaw.com log-in screen. No password is necessary to view the instructions.

West is not alone in how it has been impacted by the SP2 update. Other popular sites have experienced similar issues. West has a close working relationship with Microsoft; however, the timing of the public release caught much of the industry by surprise.

If you haven't yet installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 and would like to for security concerns, follow the instructions above once SP2 has been installed or call Westlaw Technical Support at 800-937-8529 for assistance. To view the latest information and documentation from Microsoft, visit <http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/winxpsp2.mspx>.

West takes its relationship with its customers and vendors very seriously. Be assured that West will continue to work with Microsoft to minimize the chance of similar situations arising in the future.

If you need more information related to westlaw.com and Windows XP SP2, please contact Westlaw Technical Support at 800-937-8529 or e-mail west.support@thomson.com <mailto:west.support@thomson.com>.
