Meaning of "den ex dem."

Here's a fun Friday question...

Old actions of ejectment, where an occupant or owner of land was ejected
upon the death of another, were referred to by the title Den ex dem.

Ex dem. is the abbreviation of ex demissione, a Latin phrase meaning "upon the demise". But, what does den mean?
