The Rutgers University Library for the Center for Law and Justice is
seeking a Serials & Technology Librarian. The Library for the Center for
Law and Justice is a research library with a collection of over 500,000
volumes and volume-equivalents, and a staff of 25, including 10
professional librarians.
Responsibilities: The Serials & Technology Librarian has primary
responsibility for the serials operations of the library and the
administration of the library's Innovative Interfaces integrated system.
The position reports to the Head of Technical and Automated Services.
The Serials & Technology Librarian manages an annual serials budget of
about $450,000; prepares budget and collection analysis reports and
monthly and annual serials expenditure reports; maintains accurate serials
records; oversees serials ordering, renewals, exchange agreements,
cancellations, check-in, claiming, binding, and invoice payment; proposes
new serial subscriptions and cancellations; negotiates and manages
licenses for electronic resources; and integrates licensed electronic
resources with the Innovative Interfaces system.
With respect to the Innovative Interfaces system, the Serials &
Technology
Librarian reviews and proposes revisions to system options, codes, and
defaults, and to procedures for system use; prepares procedures manuals
and training materials, and provides training; monitors system status, and
corrects malfunctions; plans for and implements system upgrades; analyzes,
recommends, and implements software or services that enhance or operate
together with the III system; and plans and implements database cleanups
and retrospective database modifications.
The Serials & Technology Librarian also participates in reference desk
duty (including occasional evening and weekend work), and in the faculty
liaison program.
Conditions of employment: This is a full-time, calendar-year,
tenure-track position. Initial appointment is for one year at the rank
of Librarian III (equivalent to Assistant Professor); reappointment and
tenure decisions are based on librarianship, scholarship, and service.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have excellent written and
oral communication skills; knowledge of U.S. legal publications, the legal
publishing industry, and electronic resource licensing practices;
familiarity with integrated library systems (preferably Innovative
Interfaces); the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with
diverse groups; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills;
willingness to learn and be flexible. An M.L.S. or equivalent from an ALA
accredited program is required. Strongly preferred will be candidates with
J.D., technical services experience in law or academic libraries;
familiarity with the AACR2 and the MARC format; proven managerial skills;
and demonstrated scholarship.
