There is a lot of literature on learning styles, which also include
kinesthetic or tactile learning. Try searching education literature
databases like ERIC. I believe the issue has been written about in the
popular literature, too, so try Time, Newsweek and that ilk. I'll think
you'll find the attorney's assumption is incorrect. Learning style
determines how you learn. If you're an auditory learner, you will
understand something quicker if you listen than if you receive the
information visually.

What he might be confusing is the issue of retention. There is
literature on how much information people can retain when listening to
a speaker, for instance.
