August e-Rulemaking Meetings in CA, IL, MA and DC

From: Mary Alice Baish (baish@law.georgetown.edu)
Date: Thu Jul 29 2004 - 12:09:40 PDT

Kristin Tensuan of the EPA has asked me to distribute the following notice to the library community about public meetings next month to solicit input on the eRulemaking Initiative. These will be held in Palo Alto, CA (Stanford University); Chicago, IL (EPA Region 5); Cambridge, MA (Harvard University); and Washington, DC (Department of Labor).

Please register by sending an email message directly to Kristin. I encourage those of you who can attend these important sessions to do so. Your knowledge and expertise will greatly assist EPA in making www.regulations.gov a user-friendly and transparent system that will bring the public into the federal rulemaking process.

Thanks,
Mary Alice Baish

eRulemaking Initiatives Forum on Public Access to Federal Rulemaking
                          Through the Internet
                              August 2004

The Environmental Protection Agencys Office of Environmental
Information will be holding the eRulemaking Initiatives Forum on
Public Access to Federal Rulemaking Through the Internet in August
2004. The Initiative will use information technology to expand public
understanding and involvement in the federal rulemaking process by
providing an easy and consistent way for the public to search, view,
retrieve, and comment on regulatory information online. Four public
meetings will be held in Cambridge, MA, Chicago, IL, Palo Alto, CA and Washington, D.C. to give citizens an opportunity to learn about the eRulemaking Initiative and provide input on its major projects.
Specifically, EPA will solicit public feedback on the usability,
features, and capabilities of the www.Regulations.gov Web site and the planned government-wide federal docket management system.

The public meetings will be open to citizens and other public
stakeholders. The Federal Register Notice announcing these meetings was published on July 16, 2004 (69 FR 42727). For further information, contact Kristin Tensuan at the eRulemaking PMO (tensuan.kristin@epa.gov).

The public meetings will be held on the following dates:
    1. August 2, 2004; 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Palo Alto, CA (Stanford University)
    2. August 3, 2004; 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Chicago, IL (EPA Region 5)
    3. August 9, 2004; 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm., Cambridge, MA (Harvard
University)
    4. August 12, 2004; 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Washington, DC
(Department of Labor)

In addition to the public meetings, Harvard University, in partnership with the eRulemaking Initiative, will be hosting an online discussion board during August 2004. Details on the discussion board will be released shortly.

We look forward to your participation in the upcoming meetings! Please feel free to distribute this announcement to your colleagues and organization members.
