Hi Everyone,

Thanks to all who responded. I received many different
opinions from librarians on how they thought the rep
commission systems within West and Lexis work
regarding ordering of print publications. It was
interesting to see people's perceptions!

Bottom line -- and this is directly from both vendors --
is that their commission structure is such that it doesn't
matter whether you order publications via their web site
or directly from your inside or outside rep. The rep
gets credit either way. Also keep in mind that if you
place your order via their web site, it will NOT show
your firm's discount when you place the order, but the
discount WILL show up on your final invoice.

Regards,

Betty

Subject: Ordering Books Via My Reps v. west.thomson.com

Hello,

I've often wondered about this so am finally putting it
to paper.....

I have a couple of West reps from whom I order books
and both have always provided me with wonderful service.

Each day the post office delivers to me numerous flyers
and brochures stating that if I order books on
west.thomson.com I can get something free, such as an
Orvis Gift Card (spend $500 and get a $100 gift card).
Sounds like a great deal to me!

However, I believe that if I order via the web site rather
than via my reps they wouldn't receive commission on the
sale. I would feel bad about that. I was in sales
for Dialog for 5 years so am very familiar with commissions
and how important they are to reps!

Anyone have any thoughts on how this all works at West?
And at LEXIS? I would love for my reps to be credited
for the sale AND I would also like to be greedy and get the gift!

Looking forward to your responses....
