I have been asked to find some statistical data on consumer product safety
recalls -- the number of recalls; the number of products; financial data
such as the cost of recalls; any estimates on injuries prevented, etc. --
and so far the data I’ve found either relates to injuries or Consumer
Product Safety Commission efforts to reduce the number of injuries from
consumer products, not to recalls per se. Is this data at all available? I
’m planning on calling the CPSC’s National Injury Information Clearinghouse,
but wanted to canvas this group for ideas about other possible sources of
info. Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help!
