Diane,
Unfortunately, your figures of news-to-advertisements in the HUB (1/4
and 1/3) are in line with what is happening in all forms of printed
media, especially newspapers. It's just when the newspaper has such a
finite scope that it hurts so much. I'm sure many an enlightening AALL
member story got aced out by a two-page ad from one of the large companies.
Still, we should be encouraged by the presence of the convention blog,
which made a pretty good alternative forum for convention news and
updates. It was such a success that it will probably be a regular
feature of conventions yet to come.
May I extend congratulations and thanks to Stephanie Davidson, Raquel
Ortiz, Stephanie Burke and Michelle Pearse in particular and all the
folks (you included) who made the blog possible.
That and Linda Ronstadt getting booed off the stage and kicked out of
Las Vegas made my whole week.
Now, please, give me all your "out of office"/ travelog messages!
