Those of you who were at the annual meeting probably noticed that the
annual meeting newspaper had even less annual meeting news than in
previous years. According to my calculations, the percentage of actual
annual meeting news, as opposed to advertisements and "vendor news," was
between 1/4 and 1/3.
This trend of less and less news in the annual meeting newspaper is not
because of decisions by the local editors. They are constrained by a
maximum number of pages per day and the number of pages that have
already been promised to vendors. I am not sure where or why these
decisions are made, but I think it is unfair to ask librarians to
volunteer to edit an annual meeting newspaper and then to only allow
them 2-3 pages per day for annual meeting news.
