This position provides reference assistance and instruction to the
Dedman School of Law's faculty, staff, and students, as well as the
library's other patrons. Primary responsibilities include, but are not
limited to, staffing the reference desk approximately 8-14 hours per
week, including one weekday evening and some Saturdays and Sundays; as
part of the reference team, participate in the library's faculty liaison
program, deliver lectures on legal research and teach in the Advanced
Legal Research course when offered, develop print and web-based research
guides and other instructional materials, create and maintain web pages,
promote library resources and services to faculty and students, organize
the reference office and reference collection; and serve on library and
campus committees. Required qualifications include a graduate library
degree from an A.L.A. accredited library school, a J.D. or equivalent
degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school, thorough knowledge of print
and electronic legal research sources, experience with a broad range of
software related to libraries and the Internet, knowledge of HTML and
other web-publishing tools, ability to work effectively with others,
excellent oral and written communication skills, and a strong service
orientation. Preferred qualifications include some teaching or training
experience, experience working in an academic law library, and knowledge
of at least one foreign language. This position is available beginning
August 1, 2004.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications experience. SMU offers
