Position: Assistant Director for Information Technology
Available: Fall 2004
The Chase College of Law Library anticipates an opening for the position of
Assistant Director for Information Technology. This position will open in
early Fall ('04) and the Law Library seeks interested applicants for this
position. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Law
Library Services and Information Technology.
Education: A Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA
accredited institution. Strong preference will be given to a candidate that
also possesses a J.D. from an ABA accredited institution.
Experience: The candidate should have 1-3 years of experience in an academic
environment (preferably a law school), but experience in other legal
settings may be considered an acceptable alternative. The candidate must
have experience with a networked environment, classroom technology, and the
use of computers for online legal research.
Responsibilities: The candidate will manage the law school's 1 ½ computing
staff which provides support to the faculty, students and staff of the law
school. Work with all elements of the law school to help promote the
effective use of technology, including charting a course for future use and
development. Work with the University's Office of Information Technology to
coordinate technology between the College of Law and the main campus.
Promote and support the use of classroom technology and the future use of
distance education. In conjunction with other library personnel, support and
help promote and develop online course pages. Assist in the maintenance of
the law school's web site. Depending on the experience and qualifications of
the candidate teach one section of legal research and act as the coordinator
of the evening research program. Work limited hours at the reference desk.
Salary: This position carries with it the rank of Assistant Professor in the
Law Library and is a tenure track position. Salary and benefits are
commensurate with experience, but will not exceed $50,000.00. Northern

Background
Salmon P.Chase College of Law
The law school is located on the main campus of Northern Kentucky
University, a growing University which is situated seven miles southeast of
Cincinnati, Ohio. The College of Law resides in a metropolitan area with a

The law school's mission is to serve traditional and non-traditional
students by providing both a full-time and part-time legal education. The
College of Law serves as a resource for the University, legal community and
the broader community. The law school was granted full accreditation by the
American Bar Association in 1959 and was selected for membership in the
Association of American Law Schools in 1984.
Chase Law Library
The Law Library is an autonomous Library within the University. The Library
supports the mission and the academic programs of the College of Law. The
Law Library offers the law students and faculty 24/7 access to its
facilities. The Law Library maintains an extensive collection of print and
electronic sources tailored to meet the demands of the modern law student.
The Law Library is a member of the Kentucky Virtual University (KYVL), a
state wide initiative that brings together all the state universities and
public libraries in an integrated network. You are encouraged to review the

Since July 2002, responsibility for information resources within the Law
School has fallen under the direction of the Associate Dean for Law Library
Services and Information Technology. The Law Library plays a crucial role
in implementing information technology throughout the law school and is at
the forefront of providing students with access to materials in electronic
formats. The Law Library is the focal point and representative for the law
school in technology matters and related issues with the university
community.
