Position: Associate Director/Head of Public Services
Available: August 1, 2004
Responsibilities: The Associate Director/Head of Public Services (The
"Associate Director") will assist the Law Library Director in all aspects
of library management, including planning library operations and services,
personnel management, budgetary oversight, legal research instruction and
planning. The Associate Director is responsible for the daily operations of
the law library and, as Head of Public Services, for all public services
provided by the Evans Law Library including reference, research support and
instruction, circulation, interlibrary loan, and the faculty liaison
program. The Associate Director will assume responsibility for the library
in the absence of the Director.
Qualifications: J.D. degree from an ABA approved law school, and MLS from
an ALA accredited institution. Minimum of five years law library
experience, preferably in an academic law library. Excellent interpersonal
skills and an ability to relate to diverse groups of constituencies and
users. Conversant in all forms of research tools. Must have excellent oral
and written communication skills, as well as superior organizational,
planning, management and teaching skills Strong public service
philosophy. Evidence of ability to meet University of Kentucky
requirements for promotion and tenure.
Terms and Benefits: Full-time 12 month appointment; tenure-track position
within the UK Libraries system. Starting salary commensurate with
experience and qualifications. Standard academic fringe benefits; 22 days
vacation; TIAA/CREF, Fidelity and Twentieth Century Annuity plans.
Library: Located in the heart of Kentucky's scenic bluegrass region, the
Evans Law Library is the premier Law Library in the Commonwealth of
Kentucky with a collection of more than 450,000 volumes, excellent
electronic resources and substantial Kentucky materials including holdings
in equine law and mining. The Library staff includes 8.5 librarians and 7
support staff, serving 410 students and 31 faculty members. The Law Library
serves an outstanding, first tier College of Law ranked 27th among public
law schools in the recent US News rankings.

Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the American Association of Law
Libraries Annual Meeting in Boston in July 2004.
