DePaul University College of Law, Rinn Law Library seeks a qualified
candidate to fill the position of Director of the Law Library.
The DePaul University College of Law, located in the heart of Chicago's
Loop, has a student body numbering over 1,000. It offers the J.D. degree
to full-time day students and part-time evening students, as well as LL.M.
programs in Health Law, Intellectual Property, and Taxation. The College
of Law draws students from all over the nation, and enjoys a reputation for
excellence within the Chicago legal community and beyond. For more

The Rinn Law Library boasts a collection of over 350,000 volumes, including
microforms. It maintains over 4,600 serial subscriptions, along with
special subject strengths that include tax, health law, human rights,
constitutional law, and church/state relations. The law library has a
total budget of approximately $2 million. The library was completely
renovated in 1994, with increased seating, study rooms, and computer
connections. A wireless network, added in 2002, provides fast and easy
access to the Internet in the library and throughout the College of Law.
The library is an active participant in ILCSO, the Illinois Library
Computer Systems Organization, and CLAS, the Chicago Legal Academic
System. Along with other ILCSO libraries, the Rinn Law Library uses
Endeavor Information Systems, Inc.'s Voyager integrated library management
system.
Responsibilities of the Position:
The Director of the Law Library reports directly to the Dean of the College
of Law. The Director has overall responsibility for all aspects of library
operations, including long and short term planning, the library budget,
collection development, and hiring and supervision of library staff. There
are 7 full time librarians and 11 full time support staff.
Qualifications:
Applicants must have a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and a
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited graduate library school. The
successful candidate will have significant administrative experience in an
academic law library, demonstrated ability in budgeting and personnel
management, and will possess a strong service orientation and excellent
organizational and interpersonal skills. He or she may choose whether or
not to be on a tenure track; those candidates seeking tenure will be
expected to fulfill additional research, teaching, and writing
responsibilities.
Rank and salary:
The Director of the Rinn Law Library is a full time member of the law
faculty. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
