Re: Changes to Google - sponsors, etc.

Elizabeth:

I believe Google sponsor links do not always show up because sponsors only
pay for certain words that reflect relevant products they sell. For
instance, if you put in "Federal legislative history" the top link is my
own practitioner's guide with no sponsor sites in sight, but put in
"Travel to Boston" and you get selected "news results" on the top and some
eight sponsor links on the side. The odd thing is that the second hit is
"Africa Adventure Tours" by Specter Travel of Boston. However, I understand
that it is not too hard to manipulate Google results and Google has
recently changed its policy and is now allowing trademark violators to
become sponsors as well; and yes, Google knows it will be sued.

Is it just me, or has Google gone over to the Dark Side? When I have
searched Google recently (since the IPO hit the news), my Google results
pages start with a full page of sponsored links, in standard typeface. I
have to go to page 2 for the true search results. Now, the maddening thing
is that the sponsored links page doesn't always show up, just sometimes.
Anyone have an explanation or comment?
