Microform indexing and locating

All,

We've recently been updating and evaluating our Microform Index (a paper &
online index that lists the contents of our Microform Room, along with
drawer and cabinet locators) and would like to hear from others about the
following questions and issues. I will summarize all replies off-list to
the list.

How do patrons actually locate the cabinet/drawer for microforms? Is this
info in a separate (paper) index? In the catalog record? Somewhere else?

Do patrons generally locate microform material on their own or through the
assistance of a librarian?

How are microforms arranged in their space? By call number? Alphabetical
order? Some other way?

Finally, to what extent are microforms reflected in the library catalog?
Completely, partially, or not at all?

I'm looking forward to hearing any thoughts on this!

Regards,
Amy Kahler
