Religious academic institutions have an important role to play in higher education. They often have unique standards and values that may not be understood or accepted (and sometimes vigorously opposed) by other members of the academic community. However, to deny them access to the resources of our professional and academic organizations is just another form of ostracism, denying them from the broader national discourse and pressuring them to be like everyone else (the result of which is destroy the very reason for having such institutions).

I would strenuously oppose any effort of AALL to limit the privileges and rights of religious institutions to enjoy its fellowship or services.

And if they intend to make use of recruitment facilities at our Annual
Conference, the problem is only aggravated. I think AALL needs to
revisit its policies on this issue.
