I think you're right, there: Better a certain amount of snarky discussion on
the list now, than much waste of time later, for both the Liberty U staff
and potential applicants.
The snarky discussion will blow over (especially as Liberty U is wisely not
participating), and costs no one any money. Wasted interviews with people
they wouldn't want to hire and who probably wouldn't want to work for them
would cost everyone involved more, in money, time, and ill feelings.

I agree, but they are also smart to state this limitation up front... I went
to a job interview at a similar institution not knowing how conservative
their religious beliefs were, and how I wouldn't fit into their mission. I
wasted my time, and the time of two employees who interviewed me. I wish
they'd stated their beliefs so bluntly in the job announcement.

They have a right to have whatever employment policies they want, that don't
actually violate the law.
They do not, however, have a right to be free of all criticism from those
who disagree. In choosing to send their announcement to this list, they did
open themselves up to the possibility of disagreement and criticism on this
list.

Disagree as you may, it is a private institution and until the Supreme Court
says so, they can prefer to hire those who abide by the mission of their
institution. My suggestion is ....don't apply for the job.
Flame away!
