Lorelei and the rest of the law-lib community,

As the representative of a non-GIANT legal publisher and a former
law librarian, I appreciate your dilemma. In fact, at my
instigation, Jones McClure is currently navigating the byzantine
(and painful) process of listing our books on Amazon.com.

Once our account is established, anyone will be able to purchase
current editions of our titles directly from Amazon.com (not to
be confused with the used, out-dated editions currently available
on their pages). However, it is important that you realize you
will get a better price and better service by dealing with us
directly.

You can set up an account with Jones McClure over the phone in
mere minutes. We'll ship your order overnight, if that's how
fast you need it, and send an invoice that can be paid after you
have met the needs of your patron. Most importantly, unlike
Amazon.com, we can set you up on subscription so you will
automatically receive the new (reasonably-priced :) editions as
they are published.

I'm sure most smaller publishers offer similar service and, in my
experience, even micro-publishers and self-published authors will
bend over backwards to help, if they can. If you can get them on
the phone or they're reading their email that day.

So, use Amazon.com, IndexMaster and other book-finding tools when
you need to track down titles published by the non-giants, but
don't stop there if you can't get the speedy service you and your
patrons require. Google the publisher and/or author to find their
website and contact information, then pick up the phone. You will
likely be pleasantly surprised by the experience :)

Warmest regards,

Dina
