It is interesting that the spam filter for Yahoo is good as I find that a
large number of my spam e-mails are from yahoo addresses.
I think what the original requester would like is the convention used on
BUS-LIB. The words "BUS-LIB" shows up on the subject line before the
subject line added (one hopes) by the sender.
A wonderful spam filter as far as I am concerned is Postini which used by my
firm. I set it at the highest filtering power and then check it once or
twice a day for stuff that doesn't make it through. My inbox and I are much
happier.

Subject: Re: Subject for law-lib e-mails
Speaking of spam, awhile back (because continually
changing and upgraded iterations of our spam filtering
software were playing havoc with all of my
professional list-servs and newsletters) I canceled
all such subscriptions from my work e-mail and
reopened them under this Yahoo e-mail address ("9601"
is the street number of my childhood home, of which I
have fond memories).
I have found this to be a very agreeable solution to
all of my (former) professional librarian e-mail
subscription problems.
If I receive something here that I really need at
work, I just forward it to myself there. Everything
else gets deleted here.
Also, I find that Yahoo's spam filter is about 97%
accurate (which, incidentally, beats our office spam
filter all to h***). What mistakes Yahoo's filter
does make are easily corrected, and you can set the
system to instantly move a mistakenly identified spam
message directly from bulk mail into your in box.
The free 4.0 MB capacity is sufficient, because if I
really want to save something, I forward it to work.
Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in Yahoo,
etc., etc. I'm sure that other free e-mail services
have similar features.
Thanks!
