Reporting Credit Problems - RESPONSES

Thank you to Judy Chalmers, Monica Martens, and Elisabeth McKechnie, who
responded to my question asking how to report an individual for
defaulting on a loan. One person suggested working through the phone
trees to get a person - any person - at the credit bureaus (alas, the
trees never permit you to contact any person; they default to
information about purchasing credit reports.) One person suggested
contacting our bank, to see how they handle reporting. One person said
that she had needed to take a loan-defaulter to small claims court to
get a judgment, which could then be registered (which makes sense to me,
so that spiteful people cannot affect innocent people's credit
willy-nilly!)

Thanks to all who replied!

        Subject: Reporting Credit Problems

I have been asked to track down how a company can report to each
of the three credit agencies someone who has defaulted on a loan.

I've gone to the websites for Experian (formerly TRW), Trans
Union, and Equifax, but those sites only have information about getting
copies of one's own credit report, or joining up to be a merchant
partner so that one can buy lots and lots of credit reports, or clearing
one's record in the case of identity theft. I've tried the phone
numbers listed for each of the Three, but those lead me into phone trees
on the same subject without addressing my issue. I've tried general
google and LexisNexis news searches, but those only yield articles about
clearing one's individual credit record.

Any ideas - either for places to look, or for the actual process
of reporting an individual who has defaulted on a loan?

        Thanks in advance -

        Mindy
