It is a memo or business card clip. I just received one as a gift (from
secret Santa). The one I received is a Crate & Barrel product. I plan to
use it for its intended purpose (Crate & Barrel purpose, that is).
Happy Holidays!

Subject: RE: Lexis gift - call me old
We didn't get one of these and after all these e-mails, I am dying of
curiousity. What is the true purpose of this thing supposed to be, if not
a roach clip?

Subject: FW: Lexis gift - call me old
Greetings,
When I asked the powers that be at LexisNexis about the secondary use of
the gift, they were honestly surprised. I sent a note to fellow librarian
in Oregon to see if they concurred with my assessment of the secondary use
and we were able to exchange stories about our siblings and friends while
denying any personal knowledge of said secondary use.
I view it as an honest misunderstanding at most-- and an anecdote that
will be around for awhile. LexisNexis responded very quickly to my
concerns and wanted to make sure that I wasn't offended... and that I was
truly bemused. They offered to replace the information that I didn't
retain with the gift when I tossed it out -- although I should have just
regifted the item to my brother.
Best wishes in this holiday season as we look at friends, colleagues and
family, enjoy their company and share a good laugh.

If a human being gives me a gift, I say thank you, but if a multinational
corporation sends me (and thousands of others) a logo-encrusted,
mass-produced, deductible-as-a-business-expense gift that looks like a
..., I make fun of it.
