I have looked at my copy of the manuscript of Marc Galanter's forthcoming
book on lawyer jokes, and see he has it earlier than Sandburg, in Stewart
Anderson, Sparks of Laughter (1923). With the punchline "talk round it,"
the joke appears in L. J. Bigelow, Bench and Bar (1871).
