I had the same experience as Joe -- the interviewer took almost a half hour to complete the survey. After that experience, I tell all people calling to conduct surveys that I do not do telephone surveys. For this survey, West was up front about being the sponsor, but sometimes the client is "blind" and the surveys include questions which would require me to reveal confidential information. It's much easier to just decline to participate in telephone surveys.

I think t;hey did a similar survey about a year ago. I think these people
do not sound like West people because they are not West people--they are
people who are hired by the people West hired to do the survey. After
several calls last year, I agreed to do it, and I regretted it. In the
first place, the questions were poorly designed, and not questions that
could really be answered. In the second place, it was interminable. They
tell you it will not take long, but it takes a lot longer than you will be
willing to be on the phone with them. I finally refused to go on with it,
since they would not give me a straightforward answer to how mucxh longer
would be required. The day after I pulled the plug on it, they called me
back and insisted that I finish, which I declined to do. They were fairly
unpleasant about it. My conjecture is that the survey people are paid by
the number of interviews they complete.

Day before yesterday I received two calls from people claiming to be from
Westlaw wanting to "pre-screen" me for a survey. When the first one found
out that I wasn't an attorney (they only wanted to survey attorneys) I
assured them that I was the most savvy user of the service. They then
wanted me to "find an attorney" for them to survey. I declined and told
them that they did NOT have permission to contact any attorneys on our
account. I cut the second caller off and told them not to call this number
or account again for this purpose. I, too, am suspicious of what was going
on with these calls. Anyone from Westlaw care to vouch for these calls?

Perhaps I'm just too suspicious or overly cautious, but this seemed strange
to me.
Yesterday I received a call from someone claiming to be a West
representative. He said he needed my e-mail address for a survey they
wanted to send me. I told him West already had my e-mail address and I
declined to give it. He hung up rather in a hurry. I just wonder if it
was
legit or if someone was trying to get e-mail addresses for some other
purpose. Has anyone else had this happen?
