Tomorrow is the deadline for sending in your comments on the Depository
Library Council's report on the Fall DLC meeting. (See the original
message below).
I'd particularly like to be sure that we get responses to the "Funding"
section
(http://www2.library.unr.edu/dataworks/Council/councilinput.html#revenue).
Specifically, I want to be sure that you look at our nine "parameters"
which we want GPO to be mindful of as they expand their search for
additional funds. The nine parameters are:
1. The public is entitled to no-fee access to official government
information through the partnership between the Government Printing Office
and federal depository libraries.
2. Access to fundamental documents of our democracy should remain
available free-of-charge.
3. Bibliographic information and other metadata should be available
free-of-charge.
4. Any information currently available to the public at no charge
should remain so.
5. New products and services should be offered at no-fee to federal
depository libraries.
6. Federal depository libraries should have access to the authenticated
versions of government information.
7. Each branch, IP address range, or other integral component of a
federal depository library should have equal no-fee access to all official
government information.
8. In its quest for enhanced revenue the Government Printing Office
should avoid any arrangement that would limit users' access to official
government information via federal depository libraries.
9. Federal depository libraries should never be called upon to collect
revenue which must be reimbursed to the Government Printing Office.
Are these adequate? Are they well worded? Should they be added
to? Please send any comments you might have to the form at:
http://www2.library.unr.edu/dataworks/Council/councilinput.html
Thanks very much.
