The Social Responsibilities SIS, Standing Committee on Library Service to
Institution Residents is happy to announce that the free online directory
of Law Libraries Serving Prisoners has moved to AALLNET. Thanks to the
work of the SR-SIS webmaster (Jan Anderson) and the computer support staff
at AALLNET, the directory's new home is:
http://www.aallnet.org/sis/srsis/llsp/
How can you use the directory?
-- as a referral source if you receive prisoner requests in the mail which
you are not able to answer.
-- add the URL to your catalog. This online version updates the print
version, _Directory: Law Libraries Offering Services to Prisoners_,
originally published by the American Association of Law Libraries,
Contemporary Social Problems SIS.
-- make a print copy of the database directly from the website.
(Unfortunately, it does not sort in an effective way when you select
"click here to view all law libraries." It lists libraries by date entered
in the database. We are working on the problem.)
-- if you respond to prisoner requests, add your library to the database
(instructions on the website).
If you have questions about answering prisoner requests, suggestions or
model policies to share with other libraries, look for the joint
roundtable at AALL 2004 in Boston on the topic of serving pro se patrons
and answering prisoner requests (sponsored by three SISs - LISP, RIPS, and
SR).
If you have questions, please let me know.
