Another Aspen rant

It's been a couple of weeks since the last Aspen rant, so I figured I'd
share mine. I just received the 2003-2 supplement to Bromberg & Ribstein on
Partnership. The list price of this four-volume set is $640. The 2003-2
supplement's list price is $466 and the 2003-1 was about the same. So even
without Aspen's outrageous shipping charges (based on cost of the item
rather than the weight of the product), I'd pay a several hundred dollars
more to supplement this set than if I just bought it new.

This is the definitive work on the subject (Svengalis) and the lawyers love
it, but geeze Louise. If this weren't a highly regarded and used set, I'd
drop it like a hot potato. Does anyone have any other thoughts other than
purchasing it new rather than paying exorbitantly priced supplements? My
Aspen sales rep is very clear on my feelings about this title and other
Aspen volumes that cost more to update than purchase new. I want to keep
current, but I'm also supposed to watch my budget.
