RE: OutofOffice Angst

I know a colleague who sets up her list-serv subscriptions on her private
e-mail account (aol or yahoo or whatever). I guess she looks there fairly
often. Thus, she doesn't have to unsubscribe when she is out of the office
for a couple of hours. I would find that unworkable, but she is much more
organized than I am.

I know I will get a rash of out of the office e-mails as soon as I post
this.

My firm wants me to use the out-of-office greeting whenever I'm out during
normal hours (dental appointments, meetings, etc.) I don't want to
unsubscribe or postpone every time I'm out for a couple of hours, so you get
stuck with my out-of-office greeting. If anyone has a better suggestion, I'm
all ears.

Re: posting thanks without the answer: I concur! Please tell us the answer,
as many of us may find it useful.

Gretchen:

re: out of office replies: Nope. We've tried for years to tell librarians to
UNSUBSCRIBE before they leave town, but .... To me though, it's a small
price to pay for the joy of being able to call on my fellow librarians for
their expertise. And isn't it nice that they don't want to miss a single
law-lib message even though they are out of town (personally, though, I
unsubscribe - there is a limit! :-)

re: My real gripe (mild): Yours is at least the 3rd "thank you" message
posted this week where the person who posted the question neglected to post
the ANSWER for the rest of us to learn from. PLEASE, everyone, don't just
say thank you, if there is the slightest chance that at least one other
law-lib member might like to know the answer to the question you posted.
Post the answer! Just because a couple people respond to the list, doesn't
mean the perfect answer didn't go to you and you only. A lot of people are
Reply-All-shy. So strip out the personal data, but post the responses.

Many thanks,
Laura

Thanks for all the helpful comments.

Is there a way to send a message to law-lib without getting 25 out-of-office
replies in return?
