I am a member of a discussion list that I think is a good professional
development opportunity for librarians. The group is called "The Librarian's
Book Club" and can be found at www.librariansbookclub.org
Every month the group selects a new book that is related to librarianship.
The book is discussed via a list-serv. The nice thing about the group is
that you can participate at any level that is comfortable to you.
One of the books currently being discussed is "Vandals in the Stacks?: A
Response to Nicholson Baker's Assault on Libraries" This book was written to
counter "Double Fold". There was a special session on "Double Fold" at the
AALL meeting in Minneapolis two years ago. "Vandals in the Stacks" is a
needed response to "Double Fold"
