It should be pointed out that there are many issues in these stories that
may be of interest to our profession. Certainly the loss of a major
library and archive would be an occasion for sadness. The legal
obligations to protect such institutions may be of interest to us, or our
patrons. And what has happened to the tablets containing Hammurabi's Code?
We as professionals routinely analyze news articles for our patrons, and
separate facts from opinion. We should be able to do the same for
ourselves. These facts should be an occasion for reflection, regardless of
the opinions that come with them.
