The Brennan Law Library at Thomas M. Cooley Law School is beginning to
hire staff at its branch library located in Grand Rapids. The law
school facilities will be housed temporarily in the Western Michigan
University Grand Rapids Graduate Center. The library will move in
January 2004 to a newly renovated space in an adjacent building in the
exciting warehouse district located in the downtown area. This is your
opportunity to be involved in the exciting and challenging task of
building a library from the ground up. Become a member of the team at
the second largest law school in the country! The following positions
are available beginning in May of 2003, but we will take inquiries for
full and part-time librarian and support staff positions since
additional positions will become available during the next 12 months.
Our students come to us from all 50 states and a dozen foreign
countries. The unique year-round calendar of classes used at Cooley
gives Library staff the opportunity to be more involved in our students
education on a regular basis. Reference Librarian The Reference
Librarian will serve an important role in helping set up the initial
temporary library reading room and assisting students in both our first
semester program and selected electives based in Grand Rapids. This
position reports directly to the Head of Public
Services.Responsibilities: Provides reference services to the Law
School, University and legal communities. Participates in reference
duty rotation, faculty liaison program, and teaching and research
seminars. Participates to some extent in all areas of Public Services,
including, but not limited to; circulation, stack management and
collection development. Supervises support staff. Must be willing to
work a flexible schedule. Some evening and weekend hours required.This
position may be full-time or part-time with the option of becoming
full-time by September 2003. It is expected that the successful
candidate will spend some time at the Lansing campus becoming oriented
to our operating procedures.
